spit that paint yo.
thats it. now spit it out. up. splash. in your face. good. green. blue. yellow. spots. staining. your face. look at me. penatrate the camera with your look with out trying.camera. shot.perfect.
does that sound like an intimate experience? it is when your Oliver Herring. the purpose of having a complete stranger is that unknowing, the unexpected, the instant when complete mess comes to sense. paint in your face somehow portrays the sense of vulnerability. oliver strives to simply take picture of complete mess and paint to an intimate experience with emphasis of color and the work placed in doing so. exhaustion. its all about having the personal connection with a complete stranger. his vow of accomplishing this perhaps evokes to others a deeper meaning. that what is difficult to look at or understand, we might have a connection with others., maybe to gain a sense of peace, that which is highly needed in our world today. its about putting down our bias and judgement and simply connecting with others and viewing them in all their glory and beauty when perhaps the reality is not that. oliver's message inspires a message only percieved with paint spat in your own face :D

elegant
i think the most beautiful and elegant writing is farsy you would never think that lines and dots can be so gorgeous in their form. when Iranian artist Reza Abedini uses farsy with images and writes quotes or sayings, it leaves a powerful impression on one. the 'negative' space occupied with a mouth in black and white and farsy letters flowing from it, causes one to think when it says ' those who are probably talking are to busy to listen to others." this statement may be simple, but the message is powerful and is further enforced with the image shown. Reza's artwork not only provides to those words with context but to others, a glimpse of the power of language and a simple image. it goes back to the saying where a picture speaks a thousand words...
film in water? what? anyone could have dropped some film in water or at least maybe by accident. but by doing so, i don't think you and i would have the same purpose as arturo herra does when doing that. a simple picture of dark figures would seem boring to some, but in arturo's eyes, its about making a connection. "life is made up of just connecting things. its not clear why we connect things, but memory and desire have to do with it...." angels, cuts, blades, fragments...pieces of awkward forms that inspire or provoke a feeling or relate something to us. by association. a photograph or image on the wall, whether it be perfect or not, the provoked feeling cause by the image is what is important, not the correct way it was made or the technique or color or anything. art has no boundaries. so let loose and just feel what you see.
beach sand?
so after viewing the images done by Tom O Scott, it was very inspirational and eye opening to see a different angle of photography and art. the sand and the black lines done by the waves and the beach itself paint a picture for one to interpret to his or her own imagination. with every photograph, the form of the lines and they way they curved and moved portrayed a scene or image such as a storm, flood, or even migration. Tom opens the door for artwork that is not payed much attention to. he simply went to the beach and walked in the sand, just like you and i do. but the difference is that he took the time to observe the sand and its formation, and actually appreciated what many take for granted or fail to see. he didnt use any tools or work, but simply stoped and valued the beauty of our earth. this work is an example of how many of us fail to appreciate the little things and perhaps now with motivation, will do so now, even if it means looking in the beach sand.

hidden, unappreciated beauty.
for the most part of my youth, i spent it absorbing the enviroment i was placed in. unable to drive since i was not old enough, i spent my time after school with friends. i went to a private all girls school since 7th grade and i must say that those years forever hold a piece of my identidy. much of my friends with whom i spent time with during and after school, became my sisters. most were from areas in which i had never been to or were familiar with. my dad worked out in LA and found it easier to just dump me off at school. we lived in whittier for the most part, and we had to leave super early to avoid any traffic that could harm my dads career. i would get to school everyday at 630 am and leave at 630 pm. school would get out at 245, leaving the rest of my time to do what girls do best: have fun. man, after school my friends and i would follow the wind and drift to whereever our hearts desired. we would bus it to eat some cheap mexican tacos at king taco or go visit the all boys school by doger staduim or take booth pictures in the center in chinatown. we would shop down broadway street in lincoln hieghts and even get our hair done by this really mexican lady who only charged us like 2o bucks for everything. man those were the days. i remember feeling so sketched out at times, because my mom would tell me scarry stories about the dangers lurking about in the LA area and me being a girl, had to be really careful. But in all my adventures, i never felt scared or threatened. i felt safe and at home. my adventures with my girls forever installed a positive view towards the misconceptions and stereotypes of los angeles. i met the most hardworking people, most generous, proud, loyal people. most of my friends came from completly different upbrings than i did, which caused me to open my eyes to not judge others. with that, i saw beauty in run down, negative neighborhoods. past the graffiti or trash, a children could be found playing in the street, inocently inviting you to play. or the lady on the corner, who sold delicous fruit with lime and chile. yum. people who think of LA picture graffiti, trash, bums, drugs, gangs, ghetto, violence,etc...alll negative images. for my book, i want to share some positive memories and images about LA in hopes to show how truly wonderful it is. i think this will contribute changing peoples perception and breaking the sterotypes bestowed upon such a hidden beauty.
